6th International Conference on Small Island Cultures
Guernsey, June 22 — 25 (2010)  

Conference theme: 'Art, Islands and Islomania'

ISIC 6 will be held on Guernsey in association with the 2nd biennial 'Art and Islands' event, which will include a specially commissioned (temporary) work installed during the conference by internationally renown artist Andy Goldsworthy. Papers are invited on the theme of 'Art and Islands' and/or aspects of  'Islomania' (the irresistible lure of islands - for artists, tourists, migrants, travellers etc.)

An early acceptance program is now operating.

ISIC 6 - Guernsey

The Conference will run from Tuesday June 22nd (study tour day + opening dinner) – Friday June 25th (Wednesday 23rd - Friday 25th being conference days] 

Conference registration fee – cUS$100 + additional costs for study tour & optional special evening events (tbc)
+ there will be an ‘optional extra’ pre-conference study tour of Jersey on Monday 21st for those interested (followed by transit to Guernsey in the late afternoon] – see details at foot of page.
 

Travel

Easiest way to get to Guernsey (at least for international arrivals) is to enter UK via London GATWICK airport (or else coach transit from Heathrow-Gatwick) and then book on:

For Asian and Australasian attendees, it’s worth considering flying to London via the United Arab Emirates since some of their airlines (eg Emirates: http://www.emirates.com) have flights into Gatwick.

Jersey Pre-conference Study Tour

The Jersey pre-conference study tour is an ‘optional extra’ being co-ordinated by Henry Johnson. Those attending should arrive on Jersey in time to attend a social evening/port walk on Sunday June 20st, followed by a day tour on Monday 21st that will end in time to transit to Guernsey to check in at hotels in the late afternoon prior to the pre-conference study tour of Guernsey on Tuesday 22nd.

Those wishing to participate should confirm with Henry Johnson <henry.johnson@otago.ac.nz> and should make their own accommodation arrangements in Jersey; there will be a small fee for hire of the minibus for the day.

The Guernsey conference organisers have identified the following accommodation options for those attending the conference. Three are in (or close to) St Peter Port (where the conference is being held). The fourth is on Herm island, a 10 minute boat trip each way. This is an attractive option for all manner of reasons (see www.herm-island.com to get a sense of these).
